SAILFISH LANZAROTE OPENWATER 2024 REGULATION 

1 - BEHAVIOR OF ATHLETES 

It is the athlete's responsibility to know all aspects of the regulations. 

By registering, the athlete accepts the SAILFISH Lanzarote Open Water general regulations and the conditions for participation. 

Each athlete is responsible for competing in good physical condition and with healthy training. Each athlete is directly responsible for ensuring that there are no health problems or contraindications that prevent or simply advise against taking part in competitions. 

Doping is prohibited. With their registration, each athlete accepts the doping rules, which are mandatory for the event. With their registration, each athlete declares not to violate, before or during the event, the organic law 3/2013 of protection of the health of the athlete and fight against doping in sports activity. 

Athletes must: 

If an athlete decides to withdraw from the race at any time, it is the responsibility of the participant to report to the information point located in the finish area and to deliver their race number and timing chip immediately. It is essential that the organization's staff know where their competitors are at all times. 

Race officials will have the authority to disqualify any participant. 

Medical personnel and / or the technical director will have the maximum and final authority to eliminate a participant from the event if they are considered to be physically incapable of continuing the race without risk of serious injury or death. Medical transportation by any contestant will imply being disqualified. 

Individual support by friends, family, coaches and supporters will not be allowed during the course of the Sailfish Lanzarote Open Water event. Each participant must immediately reject any attempt to help, follow or accompany. Failure to do so will result in a warning or even disqualification. 

Basic principles of the event are fairness and regulatory compliance. Seeking benefits by breaking these rules is prohibited. Athletes may not impede or endanger others, or hinder the race process. 

The traffic regulations will be observed and the instructions of the organizers, judges and medical personnel will be followed.

The top 3 absolute finishers in the men's and women's categories will receive a prize in the following categories: 

5 - USE OF NEOPRENE 


*For the participants of the Lanzarote Open Water Cup, the use of wetsuits will be governed by the specific regulations of the competition of the Lanzarote AA Cup Organization (email: lz.aguasabiertas@gmail.com)

* For the participants of the Canarian Open Water Cup, the use of wetsuits will be governed by the specific regulation of the competition of the Canary Swimming Federation (FEDECANAT) 

In any modality outside the participation of the different cups, swimmers may use neoprene, trisuit (triathlon).

The wetsuit can cover any part of the body, except the face, hands and feet. 

6 - CLOTHING 

Hat delivered by the organization. The cap cannot be modified. In case of wearing additional hats, the one provided by the organization should be the one that covers the rest. The bib will be visible on the two outer parts of the hat. 

For the participants of the Spanish Cup and the Canary Cup, they will wear the cap specified by the regulations of each one of the federations. 

Here is a list of clothing that each swimmer could wear during the course of the event: 

The timing chip must be used throughout the race. In the event of loss, the swimmer must communicate this circumstance to the timekeeping company upon arrival at the finish line. The swimmer must pay the value of the lost chip to the timekeeper if it deems it convenient. The chip must be placed on the ankle. 

All electronic devices such as watches, heart rate monitors and GPS water will not be allowed. 

If an athlete violates this rule, he may be disqualified. 

Equipment not allowed: 

Artificially powered devices. * 

Flotation devices. * 

Gloves or socks. 

Wetsuit that exceeds 5 mm thickness. 

* These instruments may only be used by people who have the approval of the technical team for justified reasons. 

7 - DEPARTURE PROCEDURES 

The distances Sardina, Delfín and Tiburón will have their independent exit. 

The 1,9 km 3,8 y 5km start will be separately  stipulated by the judges see times at agenda. 

To access the competition area, athletes must pass through an area where they will be counted or aligned. This area may only be abandoned towards the exit, and only under the instructions of the officials. 

The exit will be delimited by a line marked on the ground. No athlete may step on or exceed this line until the moment the start is given. 

Athletes will be grouped in the pre-start area according to the assigned start. 

Athletes will be called to the starting area and will occupy the starting positions under the instructions of the officials. 

When all the athletes are in position, the "start procedure" will take place. It will be announced "to your posts!". 

At any time after the announcement, the starting officer will sound a horn signaling the start of the race. 

The start must be forward, not being able to start the competition from a different position than the one assigned. 

Irregular departures. Athletes who deviate from the indicated protocol or advance to the start when the rest of the athletes do so with the horn, will receive a sanction to be determined by the event judges. 

Nil outputs. In the event that the start is null, the athletes must return to the position assigned or chosen in principle. 

8 - METHOD ARRIVAL PROCEDURE 

The winner of the event will be the athlete who comes out of the water first. The judges will be on the beach and will determine the positions. 

RUNNING IS NOT ALLOWED. The arrival will be counted since the swimmer comes out of the water and sets foot on land. 

9 - COURSES 

The organization reserves the right that a participant must leave the competition to guarantee their safety.

The provisional results will be published on a bulletin board at the end of the event.

The official results will be available later on the event website. 

The total time of each athlete is the one that is counted from the moment of starting until the end of the competition. 

The time spent in the transitions from the goal arc to the water at the start and from the water to the goal arc at the arrival are part of the total time. 

In the event that with the available means it is not possible to determine which athlete has spent less time finishing the competition, the judges will be in charge of deciding. 

Incomplete results can be declared official at any time. 

The Referee will use all available resources to decide the final position of each athlete. The information collected from the different technological tools will serve to help in the final decision. 

The results in the event of a tie will be ordered according to the cap number. 

Cut off times: 5km time limit is 2 hours 30 minutes; 3.8km cut off time 2 hours and 1.9km the time limit is 1 hour. Timer starts with start signal of each race. 

12 - PARTICIPATION AND INSURANCE 

All participants declare that they are in optimal health conditions and have no knowledge of any reason why they cannot participate in the Sailfish Lanzarote Open Water event. For this reason, swimmers agree to participate at their own risk. 

Participation is suitable for athletes of any nationality, federated or not and born in 2010 and earlier. Minors under 18 must provide the authorization of their parents or guardian in writing at the time of picking up the bib. No underage swimmer may carry out any of the crossings without this authorization signed and delivered to the organization. 

Under current legislation, the organization contracts a liability insurance policy in addition to accident insurance that will cover all participants at all distances. 

13 - SECURITY 

A security operation both on land and at sea will ensure the safety of swimmers. 

The organization's medical services will be authorized to withdraw any participant for medical reasons. 

14 - SUPPLY 

The organization will provide a refreshment point in meta composed of: liquids and solids. 

15 - MODIFICATION OF THE EVENT 

The Organization reserves the right to modify the event, delay the start or suspend it, if, in its opinion, the conditions are dangerous for the participants on the day of the event. If by order of the authorities, force majeure or security reasons changes should be made to the event or it should be canceled, the Organizer has no obligation to indemnify the Participant for the damages that this cancellation may cause. 

16 - PERSONAL DATA 

The purpose of collecting your data at the time of registration is none other than to administer and manage the event information, and keep you informed of possible changes in the testing schedule and / or promotions of products related to SAILFISH Lanzarote Open Water. Along these lines and with a clearly sporting, promotional and commercial objective, we ask the athletes and their children for consent, so that their image can appear in photographs and filming carried out in the various organized activities. 

To renounce this assignment, you must notify Sands Beach Active SL in writing. And, in accordance with the provisions of Organic Law 15/1999, of December 13, on the Protection of Personal Data, you may rectify or cancel your data in whole or in part. 

17 - AMENDMENTS TO THE REGULATION 

These regulations can be corrected, modified or improved at any time by the organization without prior notice, as well as any data, rule or section for optimal performance of the event. The fact of making the registration shows the conformity of the participant with these regulations. 

18 - DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY AND PROTECTION 

By simply registering, the participant declares the following: “I am in optimal health to participate in the SAILFISH Lanzarote Open Water. In addition, I exempt the Organization, sponsors or other participating institutions from any responsibility for any accident or injury that they may suffer before, during and / or after the sporting event, and renouncing any legal action against any of said entities. 

During the development of the competition I will contribute as much as possible with the Organization, to avoid personal accidents. I also authorize the Organization to make advertising use of photos, videos and any other type of audiovisual material in which it may appear, accepting the publication of my name in the classification of the event, in the media and / or the Internet, without expect payment, compensation or retribution for this concept. 

19 - EVENT DATA 

The event is organized by Sands Beach Active SL
